Stevenage Packaging are excited to be sponsoring the first annual charity 20/20 Roland Buthcher Trophy on Friday 18th July 2025, attended by former Stevenage, Middlesex & England cricketing legend, Roland Butcher.
In what promises to be a one-of-a-kind event, the Stevenage Cricket Club XI will be facing off against an All-Star team of cricket legends, competing to be crowned the inaugural Roland Butcher Trophy champion.
As many will know, Roland is an icon of Stevenage Sports History and a very good friend of the Stevenage Community Trust. Barbados born and Stevenage raised he played for Stevenage CC as a youth before joining the professional ranks at Middlesex CCC who he represented from 1974 until 1990. He has gone down in history as the first black player to represent England cricket at the highest level. He returned to Stevenage in the 90's to captain the club in a golden era in which the team just missed out on becoming champions of the county. Roland recently launched his autobiography: Breaking Barriers – Barbados to England… and back, a celebration of his heritage, journey and incredible cricketing talent.
The event, hosted at Ditchmore Lane in Stevenage, is an exciting charity fundraiser cricket match for the Stevenage Community Trust, an organisation celebrating 35 years of support for the local community. The Stevenage Community Trust, established in 1990, has supported thousands of families, organisations and individuals within Stevenage. It is an integral part of the local community and incredibly deserving of support and celebration as it begins the countdown to four decades of support for the Stevenage.
Join us from 5pm onwards on the 18th July, with the cricket match starting at 6pm. Entry is free for all, there will be a barbecue with burgers, hotdogs, soft drinks & beer. There will also be amenities, such as as a raffle & auction and Caribbean Steel Band. We'll also be joined by a number of county & international surprise celebrity cricket guests, so it promises to be a truly unique and exciting event for all.
